Kitchen Banquette

Hey All!

Hope you had a wonderful and safe Labor Day weekend!  I didn’t do too much this weekend – grocery shopping, laundry and a quick trip to Hobby Lobby.  Not too bad – well the grocery and laundry stinks – but who doesn’t love Hobby Lobby?

I am so excited to show you the final changes made to my kitchen banquette area.  Nothing like having friends for dinner to get you motivated to finish up projects that have been haunting you for months.

Let’s start from the beginning.  For those of you who are new followers, here is a little back story on this space.  We purchased a foreclosure that had been sitting empty for about 3 1/2 years.  It was quite a project and a huge mess!  We “gutted” the entire first floor.  Here is the BEFORE of the kitchen eating area:

Can you see the little screened-in porch that is out the door?  That becomes the breakfast area.  The wall comes down … take a look:

The wall came down and the floor came up.  We had to build the floor up on the porch to meet up with the kitchen floor in the house.  The screens were replaced by windows and the screen door replaced by a real door.

This picture was taken right after the banquette bench was built and the floor was matched up with the kitchen floor.  The room is completed but not homey.  It needs a little “happiness”!

Blah!  This room needs some COLOR!

This is better!  We added a chocolate brown cushion on the bench and lots of fun pillows.  The window treatment really changed the look of the wall of windows.  I think my favorite part is the stripe I painted on the back wall.  It is SW Copper Mountain and made such a big difference in the way the pictures looked on the wall.  The paintings were getting lost on the beige and I really wanted them to stand out.  The letters are just MDF from Hobby Lobby that I painted chocolate brown.  TA-DA … Happiness!

Here is a closer look.  The paintings were done by Roz from Drunken Cows.  She is offering all my readers a 10% discount at her website until the 17th of September.  Just enter the promo code H2H when you check out.  She has the most unique and super fun art work.  Be sure to check out her website!

This is a close up of the window treatment.  The fabric is so busy, that I wanted the treatment to be simple.  The colors are fabulous – all my favorites – orange, turquoise, chocolate, citrus green and sage!

Lots of pillows really make this area so comfortable.  I wanted it to feel like you could just hang out around the table for hours.  The kids do their homework here, have their friends around the table for snacks and we have a blast at dinner with each other.

More pillows!

This is my favorite pillow!  Who couldn’t love a fat, orange chicken? Oh and the back is orange velvet – awesome!

I couldn’t be happier with the final results.  I hope you enjoyed seeing it all come together.  I put together a centerpiece for the table that I will share with you soon.  You will just have to keep coming back!

Hope your life is more colorful pillow heaven than boring beige havoc!

Hey Missy-Darlin’…GREAT job! You continue to amaze me. Can you tell me a little more about how those curtains are constructed and hung? I tried zooming on the pic, but couldn’t quite tell. THANKS! Love getting your blog! KB

    • Missi says:

Hey Karen – Thanks for the nice comment! The curtains are simple “handkerchief” style – they are hung with a tab on a knob (finial). There is a “bell” at each tab. I will try to get a better pic for you and send it over.

  7. The pillows and the valence are so beautiful, cozy and colorful. I would love to have a cup of tea and read Real Simple at that table :)

  8. I want to come over for dinner now…your kitchen looks amazing (and SO comfy)!
