Fabulous Friday Favorites – Mad Men

Happy Friday!

I am on the road this morning heading back up to the Raleigh/Durham area.  I am picking up my daughter from Duke after spending a month there taking a class on Global Conflict (this kid is clearly her dad’s)!  I am kidding – she is smart as a whip, but she is also incredibly creative.  A good mix of the both of us – I am the smart one.  Hee!

Please say a little prayer that I do not have the same ride home that I did last week … we all know where that ended up.  If you don’t, and you are brave enough, take a look at this Post.

Today’s FFF is Mad Men.  Now, I have to come clean and admit that I have never seen this show.  I know I know – I live in a cave.  But, I don’t think you need to see the show to appreciate the style of that era.  The clothes were so classy, the women curvy and the furniture sleek.  Oh and let’s not forget the men … always dressed impeccably.

I can’t wait to show you my Mad Men Style pictures today.  It is a little bit different from things I normally show you, but I think you will love them.  These pictures are my nephew (R) and his fiance’s (J) engagement pictures.  They are having a Mad Men Style wedding and it is going to be amazing.  The wedding is in Dallas, TX and we are so looking forward to finding the perfect outfits and taking a road trip to Texas right before Thanksgiving.

My nephew is the son of my Hubs sister and I really cannot believe he is getting married.  He has grown up so fast and that means I am getting old.  Here is a picture of R at my wedding in 1993.  He was just about 8 years old.  That is Hubs cousin on the right – no idea how old he was?  Oh my goodness!

The pictures were taken on a floor of The Westin in Dallas where the reception is going to be held and at the Oceanaire Seafood Room.  I thought the pictures were taken in the middle of the night, but it was actually a Sunday afternoon.  The Oceanaire agreed to let them come in and take pictures while they were closed once they explained that it was their favorite restaurant. The photographer, Shaun Menary, used some kind of photography trick to make it look like it was nighttime.  Shaun has his own blog so be sure to check him out!

When I saw these pictures I asked R immediately if I could show them on my blog.  I am so happy they agreed.

Isn’t J’s dress gorgeous? The color and style are just stunning.  And look at my little nephew … now a tiny 6’6″ and a grown man.  We are so proud of him!

Who would have thought to have pictures taken for your engagement in a bathroom?  But aren’t they so fantastic?!  These were all J’s idea … so creative!

This is one of the pictures taken at the Oceanaire Seafood Room and is my absolute favorite.  I think it looks just like something right out of a movie scene.  The setting is so so fabulous – the fish is the best!

J  - you look so smokin’ HOT in this picture!  Even the light fixtures look right out of the 1960′s!

Another wardrobe change for J … maybe I should start calling her J-Lo!

I love how you can see J’s engagement ring in this picture.  Very clever!

This picture is sooo Mad Men.  Just a note:  neither of them smoke.  Makes the picture even more theatrical!

Ooooh … super artsy!  Young love …

Even the shadows are cool … the shadows in my pics all look like big mistakes.

I hope you enjoyed these pictures as much as I did.  They are so unique, memorable and timeless.  They are a lucky couple to have found each other.  I know they will be happy for many many years to come.

Hope your life is more young love heaven than havoc!

Missi

    Hey Missi!

MB. forwarded me the link to your blog. Those pictures are so cool. The one of me and R is hilarious! I was 19 at your wedding and a sophomore in college. That’s quite a light tan, double breasted suit I was sporting! I’m hoping to see you all at the wedding. Say hi to D for me.

    Hi Missi,
I love your blog! My brother sent me the link.
DB told me about the photos, so cute! And very creative. I hope to be there.
Great photo of CA cousin M too!
I love the veggie dip idea, I make veggie and dip for our BBQ’s all the time, but the individual cup idea is fabulous! Pesky ole double dippers”. ;D

Hello to the family and happy fourth of July.

    Hugs,
    Michelle

[...] I am so excited to show you Char’s Thanksgiving Table.  Seeing the pictures is almost like being there.  I am so happy that I have the chance to imagine what it would be like to be sitting there for dinner through these wonderful images.   Thanksgiving will be in Dallas this year with the Hubs family.  We are headed there today for my nephew’s wedding on Saturday.  We are really looking forward to seeing everyone.  My son is included in the wedding – can’t wait to see him in his tux.  Remember my nephew’s amazing and unique engagement photos?  I blogged about them HERE.
