“I live in a city open to the sea, kind to the visitor, with beaches, with wild boars, with a Sònar Festival; I live in a city made of the sum of little towns and of big cultures; I live in a modernist / contemporary / modern / ancient / gothic city; I live in the city of design, of art, of Mrs. Rose, of the bravas potatoes, of the bulding works in Lesseps Sq.; I live in the Eixample, in the Montbau, in the Guineueta, in Diputació St., I live in Barcelona”.
Most of you may not know of my love for Barcelona, Spain. I visited Barcelona in 2007 for my 40th birthday with my husband. We spent 4 days in Barcelona, then took a one week cruise around the Mediterranean and then 4 more days in Barcelona on the back end. It was the trip of a lifetime and one of my best memories. I fell in love with Barcelona immediately and it has never left my heart.
Barcelona is beautiful. Not the kind of beautiful that you see on a normal day, but the kind of beautiful that takes over your heart and never lets go. The city has ocean beaches, mountains, amazing architecture, delicious food and gorgeous/friendly people. It grabs you the minute you walk down your first street and takes your breath away. I fell in love with this city and begged my husband to call home and have the kids put on a plane to Spain – I never wanted to leave. Of course, he brought me back down to reality (the whole job thing kinda got in the way). I admit I pouted like a five year old – even though I knew I was being completely unrealistic. But the desire to live in Barcelona has never left me. I even took a picture of the apartment building I want to live in and it hangs over my bed, with a collage of other memories of this trip – it is to remind me that it is okay to dream.
If you have never been to Barcelona, Spain – please put it on your bucket list. I promise you, you will not be disappointed. In fact you may never come back.
