Always on the House Hunt

Hi Everyone!

Is anyone else as obsessed with looking at listed houses for sale as I am?  Every time I go to a new city, I have to pick up the free house bulletins.  You know the ones you find in the little machines in the lobby of the diners or outside the grocery store?  You don’t?  Oh shoot … maybe I am just the weird one.  I am so interested in what real estate looks like in different areas of the country.  I love to see what you can get for your money and see what would be perfect for my family.

Sometimes I even will “troll” around on zillow.com or realtor.com and put in a random city to see what pops up.  Yes – I know you are thinking I have too much time on my hands, but I consider it research.  Anyway … since I just got back from New Jersey, I thought I would show you a house I found on Zillow in Morristown, NJ that I thought was really cool.  I am thinking of making this a semi-regular feature on my blog since that will give me a good excuse to continue to creep on other people’s homes.  Ha!

This house was built in 1872 and was recently purchased in 2005 for $1,860,000.  It is now listed for the rock bottom bargain (ha ha!) of $1,184,321 (what a weird price – must mean something).  It is 7,500 square feet with 7 bedrooms and 5.5 bathrooms.  It caught my eye because of the amazing curb appeal – but it definitely needs a little work.  What do you think?  Could you picture yourself here?

Isn’t it stunning?  I love the way it sits on the lot and the front porch is incredible!

I can see myself sitting on this porch on a large rocking chair or swinging on a porch swing filled with colorful pillows!

Back side porches.  I would love to screen these in and use the top one as a sleeping porch.  I have always wanted a sleeping porch.

A larger view of the side and back.

This would be my hideout.  Can’t you just see an amazing craft room, art studio and reading nook in this littel barn?  Makes me swoon!

Check out the wood floors and heavy moldings.

This is not my style – but take down the pink curtains, ugly flower wallpaper and it would be a lot better.  The floors are gorgeous!

Lots of natural light!

Now this is a cool room!  Loving the wide step that lead to the main staircase.

I really like the surround on this fireplace!  Please take down those crazy curtains on the doorway.  Yikes – can you say Addams Family?

This bathroom has obviously been updated.  I am digging the tub and the floor so much!

Updated kitchen too!  I could live with this … I adore all the windows and light!  The island light needs to be updated (and a light bulb replaced).

Another angle of the kitchen.  Definitely needs some color on the walls!

This looks like the view from the stairs.  Those spindle things I am not so sure about??

Does this even look like it is from the same house?  This wine cellar looks brand new.  Wow!

Paint me …. Paint me …. Paint me!!!

Beautiful moldings and fireplace.  The mirror would have to come down – it is overwhelming the space.

I love this bay … the floor and moldings are fantastic!  I could spend a lot of time sitting in these windows with a good book.

So that is my real estate find in Morristown, New Jersey.  Morristown was a mixture of old homes and new homes – but this one really caught my eye.  This house has a TON of potential but who wants to put a whole bunch of money into a house that is already over a million dollars.  No thank you.

Hope your life is more old home heaven than havoc!

Missi

Oh, and congrats on the Hooked on Houses shout-out! I LOVE that site, especially the BAD MLS listing photos link…sometimes I almost wet myself from laughing!

  2. Did you sneek in, or have a proper guide? I love it. Let’s put in an offer- it just needs a bit of paint and a lawn service right?
